Daily Wisdom

For men shall be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.” 2 Tim 3:4

C.S. Lewis states, man is endless in his attempts to fulfill pleasures this world cannot satisfy, the probable explanation is that man was made for another world. God does not call us into His presence to keep us from pleasure; He calls us to experience the fullness of pleasure in His presence that this world cannot offer. Sadly Christ went more willingly to the cross than man does the throne of grace. Today man knows more about the lives of personalities, athletes and entertainers than they do the life and ministry of Christ. The worldly things we covet, and zealously try to retain, never seems to bring an end to our desires? These desires escalate into a vicious spiral as we seek greater pleasure, but find less and less contentment. When “All I ever wanted” is grounded in temporal desire, it’ll never be enough. Solomon sought after and obtained every pleasure the world had to offer to only surmise his life as “all is vanity” (Ecc 1:2) as in chasing the wind.

A life devoted to seeking pleasure is life devoted to discontent!
