But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.” Jn 5:42

This is the greatest gift, the love of God, and its’ never earned.  We, unfortunately live in a context today that love is earned or deserved and placed upon others as an award.  Like marriage, in a reciprocation arrangement stating I’ll love you and you’ll love me; then we add in commitment, honesty, promises as some type of assurances or guarantees.  Society tries to illustrate it through marriage, romances and on screen images. But, God’s love for us is so contrary to this context, it’s not at all like our love.  God’s love is unconditional, always for us, towards us and relentless without preconditions or arrangements. Rather or not we are messy, unworthy or non-reciprocating His unconditional (agape) love is real and ever-present. Yet, so many miss its power, feeling they can’t nor have anything to return to God; that’s the miss, He doesn’t require anything. It’s not elementary love; I’ll love you if you love me, it’s not conditional with obligation of religious practices on our part. We are so conditioned that nothing is free, it will cost us in some way, God’s love is unconditional and free if we are willing to receive it and accept it. That’s the greatest love story ever told and it’s all about His love for us in spite of ourselves. It’s in this context of God’s love that life truly begins!

The greatest and unharnessed power in the world is God’s love; its only hindrance is our acceptance.

That God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.” Eph 1:17

Do you know enough of God to want to know more? Paul prays for the church to come to wisdom and revelation in God, not just knowledge.  For some their understanding of God is on par with their understanding of cancer; God is good, cancer is bad. Tozer stated: “The devil is a better theologian than any of us and is devil still.” It’s the difference, revelation between knowledge of God and wisdom in God that brings fulfillment and worth in your life. Knowing God and choosing not to serve Him, is like knowing how to swim but choosing to drown.  You draw close to that which you desire and exhaust great effort in obtaining all that you can that concerns it.  Wisdom comes not by knowing His will, but by doing His will brings you to a deeper relationship. Knowledge is the consumption of information that lacks the wisdom of application.

No God no peace; Know God know peace.

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Col 3:24

The greatest wealth comes not by whom you’re born to, but by Him who adopts you. In His infinite love, God has adopted us as His own children. Through Christ suffering, brought us into His family making us co-heirs (Rom 8:17) to the riches of His grace and wisdom.  The poorest of man has the ability to gift the richest inheritance through Christ. The greatest treasure lies in heaven, the best way to store it up is by investing in getting others there.  Like a spiritual mutual fund, investing in Gods will bring the greatest returns.

Don’t long for an inheritance that can buy the world, seek one that can change it.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” Pro 30:5

Your strongest testimony occurs in those moments between when you leave church worship and before you return; knowing your willingness and purpose in keeping God’s word is the greatest form of worship to God and the most powerful testimony in showing others His goodness; and can be the key that unlocks someone else’s prison.

The word of God is the bread of life, not an appetizer for the world.

“…in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” Psa 16:11

Both Peter and Paul referenced this psalm three times in Acts speaking to Christ resurrection. This psalm is titled Michtam of David, and is titled on five psalms; it’s translated "stelography" in the Septuagint, meaning an inscription upon a pillar; such as is erected by conquerors declaring a victory obtained; suggesting that the psalm, or the subject of it, the death and resurrection of Christ, was worthy of David’s attention and to be inscribed on a pillar of marble declaring great joy of victory in Christ.  Joy is not obtained through absence of hardship; but rather in the presence of Christ to endure it; that’s the joy that builds strength in your life (Neh 8:10). A soul filled with joy will preach the loudest without ever preaching.

Joy is what comes alive in ones spirit when they find their greatest gift is in the presence of Christ in their life.

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.” I Tim 1:5

The commandment of servitude through love, not hindered by speculative motives, but in Godly edification which Christ calls us all to accomplish, has precursors for its effectiveness in our lives. In order to accomplish God’s will, one has to reach the point where good intentions give way to purposeful acts. Paul encourages Timothy to be purposeful in order to love others as God has called us; this requires on our part a Pure Heart, Godly love has to be seated and secured from within, not merely by outwardly expression; Good Conscience, a spirit free from the violation of guilt when a man knowingly acts in continual wrong; Unfeigned (sincere) Faith, that does not quarrel with its obedience to the truth of God’s word or hindered in confidence in the promises it offers.

Love isn’t something you fall into; it’s purposeful in order to serve others. (1 Cor 16:14)

Daily Wisdom

To my beautiful sister!

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors (victors) through him that loved us.” Rom 8:37

There is a great misnomer in life that victory over a challenge is defined by the outcome; victory is determined moment by moment in how the challenge is faced, and how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live day by day.  Paul defines a spirit of victory in Philippians 1; while I’m here let’s get His work done before I go home. Victory is not a last man standing definition, but a daily occurrence in hope, strength and His promises, and that living moment by moment through these we are victorious in Christ. Don’t cheat yourself out of the abundance of life Christ has given you by defining victory by worldly outcome.  You miss the beauty of the victory by focusing on the final outcome instead of focusing on the journey getting you there.

You can’t worry your way to victory; it comes in the individual moments God gives you!

For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers…” Titus 1:10

Just as Paul warned Titus, we must be cautious towards those who participate in our life as well as ourselves; understanding the importance of truth and motive in our lives and those around us. Don’t be misguided by the presentation or the image that is often projected by others as it aligns to truth and purpose. Such actions are a direct attack against the truth and integrity upon which the Christian faith is built. Paul warns us: 1.) is the focus on their ministry on Christ or self. 2.) Does their direction cause you to compromise or dilute your faith (obedience) to the word. 3.) Is Christ and His divine nature or the power of God’s word de-emphasized? 4.) Are decisions made by way of man’s judgment rather than prayer and biblical guidelines?  There are many vain-talkers who are more given to self-serving religion than to sacrificial Christianity. Be cautious if the words of others, or those of your own, are confusing in comparison to their living.

The value of your testimony is not in what you say, but how it is illustrated.

“…because there was no room for them in the inn.” Lk 2:27

Weigh these words that were levied towards Joseph, Mary and Christ. These words carry their meaning to many people in many places but, no room for Christ?  Joseph had nothing to offer for accommodations, no means for consideration by others.  They had Christ amongst them, but that was not enough to be considered.  How much are we like the people of Bethlehem today, no room for Christ? Yet He’s no longer a child, having delivered us from sin, conquered death and He’s coming again.  Christ speaks to us “Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it to me.” (Mt 25:45)  Are we void of time for Christ and those around us who are hurting and hopeless in their need for the love of God?  Is the “Inn” of your heart full, is it unaware or too occupied for consideration of those around you in need, in turning such away, you turn Christ away!  Is your heart so full with life you miss His knock and the opportunity to hear from Him and the needs of others? (Rev 3:20)  Don’t be a part-time Christian, in need of a full-time God.

Be wary of the bareness of a busy life.

Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”  Jn 4:48

Faith often falters until favor becomes fruition. This was the cast of the Jews everywhere, they needed signs and miracles and understandably so, and Christ performed such miracles for that purpose.  But, their sin lay in this; they continued to desire such signs and miracles and were not content in Christ alone, but more in what He had to offer.  Faith is derived by what you don’t see, which allows you to see what you do believe. It states when the nobleman, who sought Jesus’ healing of his son, heard Jesus say “go thy way, thy son liveth” he believed (without seeing) what Jesus had spoken and went to his son. Faith is the strength when you don’t get what you ask; you’re still able to see what you have in Jesus. Is the measure of your faith derived from the performance of God?

Faith does not exist in the assurances you see, but only in the promises you don’t.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged…” Lk 6:37

Unfortunately many who quote Jesus in saying “judge not, least you be judge” use it to judge others for judging! People are apt to judge in matters they don’t have full understanding and in doing so cause hurt, discouragement and confusion for others. But, we are directed by the scriptures that we must have judgment, but only when it comes to discerning character and/or teachings. Paul illustrated this many times (Mt 7:1; Mt 7:15; Rom 16:17-18; 1 Tim 1:20; 2 Tim 2:17-18) he even mentions names such as Demas, warns Timothy about “Alexander the coppersmith” who did much evil, Hymenaeus and Philetus who have gone astray and John warned of Diotrephes who loves to be first (3 Jn). These men were not wrongly judged by the apostles, but discernment was used against their ungodly character and false teachings. It’s not judgment speaking to one, privately, about such character flaws and teachings. But when criticism comes by means of jealousy, bitterness, selfish-ambition or any sin of your personal dislike and not for the purpose of building them up in Christ-likeness, such would be unjust judgment. It becomes judgment when we use human standards and opinions and not God’s word for betterment and encouragement. First and foremost, before you look towards others look inward first and see if it’s a worthy example.

Judge not what you see, but what you know to be true.

And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost.” Lk 1:41

Consider in the span of a few feet was the presence of Jesus, the child of Mary, and John the Baptist, child of Elisabeth; one being God in flesh, the Messiah and the other the forerunner to Him and greatest born among women.  And even though John the Baptist who once he was born his father's tongue was miraculously loosed and spoke immediately praising God (vs 64); it was while still in his mother’s womb that John experienced the presence of Jesus for the first time and leaped in His presence. This experience was a precursor to the day John the Baptist while baptizing saw Jesus and proclaims “behold the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world” (Jn 1:29). John the Baptist obviously never missed an opportunity to rejoice over or acknowledge the presence of God; do we miss such opportunities, rejoicing in the presence of God?   Feasting on the presence of God, the world loses its allure and creates a clear path of joy (Psa 16:11).  Don’t let your emotions be your guide, stop, be still and know He is God; a moment in His presence changes everything!

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father and of Christ.” Col 2:2

As Christians we must understand the power of love and the use God has intended for it.  Love is the binding instrument to all knowledge, assurance and mystery of the Gospel that reconciles all things to Christ (Col 1:20). Just as an open wound leaves one exposed to outside infection, a heart that is damaged is susceptible to worldly infection and needs mending to ensure proper healing; love is the suture that seals an open heart that helps the healing and prevents outside infection.  Love is the bond between God and His children; and calls us to extend that love amongst each other; edifying not destroying, building up not tearing down, unifying not untying.  Not by mere outward profession, or by mere speculative faith; it’s meant to be a comfort for the hurting, knitted by affection and compassion, not with an infection and indifference.

Love, like medicine, takes time to work; it’s not a single act, but a daily prescription to be administered on our part.

“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls.” Pro 25:28

Don’t allow spiritual victory go to your head or failures to your heart.  Each generates great swings in your feelings that can ignite pride or unworthiness.  Within life flows with a myriad of emotions that often control or even conquer your life…happiness, sadness; laughter, tears.  Seldom are these established in truth, but rather fuel for reaction. Emotions capture your thoughts often leading everywhere except in the right direction. When life requires a decision don’t allow your emotions a voice, instead align them with God’s word in order to guard your heart, and all that influences it, for everything flows out of it (Pro 4:23).

Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts…” 1 Cor 4:5

C.S. Lewis states it the best: “forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiving the inexcusable in you.” When you judge, it only defines who you are.  We must understand that everyone has a past and everyone is afforded a future hope through Christ; judgment cast forth condemnation and shame, yet love offers hope and healing, you can’t do both. “It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to convict, God’s job to judge and our job to love.”

But, God commandeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom 5:8

It’s not about what you do, but why you do it…if your why is the reason for your what, then what you do really doesn’t matter, because whatever you do the value is in the why and not the what.  What Christ endured is not as valuable as why he did it; He’s why was the source that made what so great...He Loved Us!  He loved us first, that’s why he was willing to die for us; our salvation is because of His “WHY” not His “WHAT.”  God so loved the world, that’s why He gave His what.

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.” 2 Cor 1:3

Many look to God’s comfort as a means to removing their struggles and trials; if so people would simply turn to God desiring relief from pain and not out of love and dependence.  The promise of God’s comfort can also mean strength, encouragement, and hope to deal with your troubles.   Paul sent Timothy to establish and comfort the church concerning their faith (1 Thess 3:2); to establish means to ‘turn resolutely” in a certain direction, in the midst of their struggles, Timothy redirect them to the starting point of their faith, Christ. Your faith will always be tested at the end of your comfort zone, and it’s that strength that will determine you comfort in the Lord. A ship can find safety in the harbor, but that’s not what it was designed for; likewise our faith is limited in comfort.

The bible may hurt in truth, but it will never comfort you with a lie.

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.”  Heb 10:35

The value man sees in you is often based on past performance; God’s plan is not based on your past, but on His promises for your future.  David had no armor, no experience, he wasn’t battle-tested, nor was he trained.  But, what David did possess, as did Goliath, was confidence, but the difference was David relied on God and not his own strength or the opinions of others.  The answer to joy, strength and hope is to make them dependent on that which can never be taking away.  Such comes in knowing that which is behind you as well as that which is before you is little in comparison to who dwells within you.

I pray that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment.” Phl 1:9

The more we understand what Christ has done for us, the more we come to realize true love goes beyond an emotional attachment; it embodies the moral principles of the heart, verbalized by the tongue, and exemplified by action.  It’s not administered based on worthiness or Christ could not love you; but rather by judgment in grace knowing “love covers a multitude of sins” 2 Pt. 4:8.  Life’s not about doing great things, it’s about being faithful in the little things with great love (Lk 19:17).  The greatest quality you have to offer others is the ability for them to see the love of Christ in you; faith, hope and love…you know the greatest!

“…our flesh had no rest, were troubled on every side; Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus.” 2 Cor 7:5-6

In spite of Paul’s weariness and struggles, he found and saw Titus as a source of strength and encouragement in God.  God may not always give you the people you want, but He will send the people you need, to comfort you, strengthen you to be the person you’re meant to be in Christ. Simple thought, but do doctors encourage the healthy or do they work with those sick and in need of care? Yet, interesting how we often run from those who are sick or in need, fearful we’ll come down with their illness or maybe burdened ourselves in their struggles.  WE are called to comfort those who are troubled; by and with the same comfort and grace in which God has comforted us (2 Cor 1:3-4). We’re all different sinners in need of the same God; be faithful when others falter; loving when others are lonely; hopeful for those who are hopeless…when it comes to compassion, after all is said and done; make sure more is done than said.

“…Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself…” Mk 12:31

Do we realize this command alone would conquer so much of the hurting, hopeless and destructive nature in our society?  Data shows two thirds of Americans have smart-phones, 1.5 billion active Facebook accounts, 316 million Twitter accounts; 230 million on Tumblr and Pinterest has over 47 million users. We’ve become a narcissistic, selfie culture promoting our own interest and desires in hopes of painting an image of happiness. In actuality we are promoting a happier on-line life than we are truly living; like a 2-minute movie trailer which ends up being the only good part of the movie, it leads to loneliness, lower self-esteem and depression.  We’ve become self-promoters instead of God and neighbor lovers, blinding ourselves with the flash of our own cameras. Greg Laurie states this “selfie” society mindset is better summed up in a simpler word “SELF.”  “Love thy neighbor as THYSELF” is Christ call. If we had as much interest investing in others happiness as we did our own, both would find real worth and value in and through Christ.  We need a selfless society, not a selfie!

Brethern, if a man be overtaken in fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Gal 6:1

Are you a restorer or an accuser? We must be unwilling to look down on another unless we are attempting to lift them up; knowing the littlest of encouragement can be the single difference in one giving up or going on. The law of Christ calls us to bear one another’s burdens (vs 2); Paul shows us that faith expresses itself through our love for others (Gal 5:6).  Each one should use the gifts God’s granted them for the use of encouraging others as faithful stewards of His grace (1 Pt 4:10). We must not judge the lives and actions of others, it’s one thing to feel that you’re on the right path, but another to think yours is the only path to walk.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Rom 8:1

It matters not where you’ve been, but where you are; not what you’ve done, but what you’re doing; not what you where, but who you are! Would have, could have, should have is the language of condemnation and is quickened with the passivity of regret. This is a debilitating language; you can’t un-sin you can only repent. It’s the love of Christ that leads us to repentance (Rom 2:4), not the judgment of sin. The same finger which wrote the Ten Commandments, and wrote on the wall, also wrote in the dirt “neither do I condemn thee” (Jn 8:11). God’s too good to spend another day at war with yourself; fighting a fight that has already been won.

I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice, for I stand in doubt of you.” Gal 4:20

Paul painfully illustrates his patience with Christians as a mother re-birthing her child (vs 19).  Even though they understood and received their salvation from the beginning, they now had to renew (rebirth) their zeal which had fallen away by their own doing (vs 15a).  Paul, standing in doubt; which is rendered in the Latin as “I am confounded by you” is perplexed causing him to reestablish their view of Christ’s goodness.  IT IS perplexing for a new Christian having been delivered from a pagan world, to being placed into an apostate one. Christianity cannot be lived standing on a line between giving up or seeing how much you can stand; if it is truth, which it is, it has to be lived in infinite proportion…it cannot not be of moderation. Stop leaving and Christ will get you where He wants you; Stop searching and you’ll find what He has for you; Stop running and you’ll be found.

Wisdom Wealth

But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?” Gal 4:9

Adoption is a conscience act to remove something from surrounding elements they cannot control or overcome. It’s this act of adoption in which Christ removed you from the elements of this world, redeeming you from the bondage that makes you a servant to this world, to becoming a child of the king (vs 5). How sad for a puppy to be adopted from the bondage of a shelter, being nurtured and loved; offered provisions and shelter; healed and restored, to only escape and return to the shelter? By way of God’s adoption, He has freed you from anything bringing you into bondage, unless you return to it! Too many find more comfort in the familiarity of their fears and pain than in the unknown freedom God calls them to. The Israelites murmured, desiring to return to their bondage in Egypt, than to face the unknown freedom God was offering them. Be cautious not to work so hard trying to fit into a world you were adopted out of to be set apart (2 Cor 6:17).

That which you submit yourself to is that which bounds you, but the word of God is not bound (2 Tim 2:9)

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace…Heb 12-28

In spite of living in a crumbling world soon to end, God promises an eternal kingdom that cannot be moved. The scriptures call us to an enduring faith to withstand the shaking, sifting and collapse taking place around us, by way of His grace; this is rendered in the original language “we have grace” as the assurance of God’s promise in which we can stand upon (Mt 7:24-27).  Endurance goes beyond the ability to bear struggles, but rather turn them into glory for Christ sake. Know that the hope you long for is derived by way of life trials and your ability to endure them (Rom 5:3-4). There are no shortcuts to endurance; you must find strength and assurance in the long route in God’s grace. Don’t pray for an easy life, it requires no strength, but pray for strength to endure the one you’re living. Endurance is patience concentrating on the promised kingdom.

Life can be like a new pair of shoes, hard and unforgiving, but endure it and they become of great use.

Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord…the people took of the spoil…” 1 Sam 15:20-21

You cannot boast in doing God’s pleasure when you still the ingredients to bake the cake.  Saul failed in two areas; while successful in killing the Amalekites, in doing so he went against God’s will by taking the spoils; second, he refused accountability and blamed others for his disobedience. Saul felt he did as directed by God, but in doing so he took what was not his in the process.  Saul used that which God had no interest in as a sacrificial worship to justify his own actions. It’s easier to bring a lamb to an altar, than to bring every high thought in subjection to God’s will (1 Cor 9:27). Don’t promote your spiritual immaturity by blaming others for your own actions; in doing so you greatly hinder your ability to exemplify Christ towards others.  The lack of accountability is nothing more than a fleshly mechanism utilized to justify one’s act of disobedience.

The moment you take accountability for everything in your life, is the moment anything can start changing in your life.

For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” Psa 107:9

This does not mean that God simply makes provision for the longing or desires of a man’s soul. As the Assyrians in Isa 29 “It shall even be” thirst to siege Jerusalem, they awoke as from a dream still faint; often man’s “longing” & “hunger” are in seeking selfish desires.  God himself longs to quench the soul of man with what is “good” not necessarily desirable. You’ve seen better days, but you’ve also seen worse; you don’t have all your wants, but you do have all your needs; you live some days with hurt, but you woke up; life is not perfect, but God has made it good. Its perspective, do you focus on what you want or on what you have in God?

It’s a human flaw to think one can change their perception without changing their perspective.

David was not seeking comfort in his walk, but wisdom in the right direction.  The only thing new with each morning is your opportunity to live in the love God which is never new, but everlasting. Declare each morning the praises of God (Psa 59:16), asking Him to enlighten your mind with truth; inflame your heart with His love; inspire your will with courage; enrich your life with faith and servitude; pardon what you’ve been; sanctify what you have. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them…” Mt 9:36

Compassion is what fuels the desire to see someone free from suffering. Instead of self-indulgence, cloth yourself in the garments God has laid out for you: mercy, kindness, humbleness, meekness and long-suffering (Col 3:12). This is Paul’s strategy for you to imitate Christ compassionate, forgiving character. The Lord is gracious and compassionate (Psa 145:8), when the Lord places compassion in your heart, He’s given you an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life, you must react in that love, don’t ignore it, someone desperately needs to see the love and compassion that Christ has already given you. The ugliest image to befall a man is one that lacks compassion for human life.  Never look down on someone unless you’re trying to help them up.

Are you a valid source for others to witness an unseen Christ; in this year alone how many encounters have occurred where others parted knowing you were a Christian?  Or, do you find yourself, unlike Paul, dissuading man with an indistinguishable image between you and Christ.  By manifesting ourselves in the image of Christ we are introducing an unseen Christ to a blind world.  Christ likeness is neither easy nor comfortable at times; it does not promise health, wealth or prosperity. Such things may be at risk, but the opportunity to manifest oneself in Christ gives imagery and vision to those who otherwise may never see the beauty of His love for their lives. Does your life reflect so much of you that Christ remains unseen by others around you or do others see Christ so clearly that you’re not a distraction to them?

Live as if you are the only source in which this world will see Christ through.

Daily Wisdom

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost.” 1 Cor 4:3

Being a Christian is exemplified in your direction not in a location; it demands progression not perfection. It has little to do with where you’ve been, but everything to do with where you’re heading. The work of turning the world upside down through Christ was not done by perfect men, but simple man willing to move it forward with a perfect God.  Yet what they accomplished was not by way of a title, but in a lifestyle they personified. As a Christian you must measure your actions with the cross; is what you’re living for worth Christ dying for?

Walk out of the shadows of yesterday and into the light of today with the promised hope of tomorrow.

Daily Wisdom

Saul assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.” Acts 9:26

Paul who was once the destroyer of the truth became the deliverer of it. With boldness in both endeavors, such change brought about doubt for many; was his true intention then or now. In Paul’s case he was clear in his beliefs on both accounts, again though once a destroyer he clearly became a deliverer of Christ promise with boldness. The church today is becoming hard pressed in clarifying its stance.  It’s growing in double mindedness and instability in the truth (Jas 1:8).  Condemn Paul for what he was, but you cannot for what he became.  For much of the church today the jury/world is still deliberating.  Lack of clarity and boldness in the truth only lends to confusion and doubt for others (Jas 3:16). Christianity is more than a belief; it calls for a life of discipline, a bold determination that through prayer you strive for a life of self-denial and Christ-likeness. As a believer you must loosen your grip on worldly comforts and standards and cling with boldness and clarity to the absolutes of God’s truth.  The image of Christ that others see in you depends on the clarity in which you present it.

Truth does not require your belief in it to be, just is; but an unwillingness to live it dilutes it for others!

“…and to him said the Lord, Ananias, and he said, Behold, I am here Lord.” Acts 9:10

Are you waiting to hear from the Lord or is the Lord waiting to hear from you? Like Ananias, Isaiah was quick to respond to the Lord; “here am I Lord, send me.” In seeking to hear from the Lord, don’t ask Him to guide your steps unless you’re willing to move your feet. To hear the voice of God we must turn down the world’s volume. He spoke to Elijah in a still small voice; find time to disconnect from that around you and be still in His presence. Don’t mistake your impatience with His absence. His timing is perfect and His presence is always with you (Deut 31:6). Know that the voice of God will never contradict with the word of God (Num 23:19).

“Want to hear God speak to you, read your bible out loud.”

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” Phl 2:5

The problems with the image of the church today are those who empty the pews carrying a truth they never live.  I don’t believe the world would blame their lack of participation in the church today if the members would truly live as they are called to live.  Being a Christian is more than a conversion, it’s a transformation that takes place daily whereby you become more like Christ and others come to realize you’ve been with Him (Acts 4:13). The purpose and power of growing in the image of Christ is the ability for others to see His glory, what others see in you is simply a reflection of what is in you.  Make sure your life is worth reading, you may be the only image of Christ that others are willing to read.

Want to change the world, change your life so the world can see Christ in you.

And the Angel of the Lord spake unto Phillip, saying, arise and go toward the South…And he arose and went…” Acts 8:26 & 27

It’s said, if you don’t change your direction, you may end up where you’re headed.  Fear and faith is the same thing, they both cause you to act, the difference is that fear is faith in the wrong direction.  Phillip left an active ministry taking place in Samaria to venture alone all for one Ethiopian man, that’s fear acting in faith in the right direction. Remember, what we see depends on what we look for; Phillip saw the Ethiopian, not the fear of the journey.  The joy and peace of the Lord is in the direction you travel, not a location you find.  Don’t complain about the winds God sends your way, and don’t just sit there till they change, but instead adjust your sails and enjoy the journey in finding others along the way.

Don’t measure the success of a man by where he stands, but rather by the direction he’s heading.

“…we all had our conversation in times past in the lust of the flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us; Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ; And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Eph 2:3-6

We’ve all been guilty of squandering time in our past, ill-advised investment and expenditures that only brought forth lustful gain.  Unfortunately we cannot return it for a refund and try again, but we can, by God’s grace make new investments.  Consider that you have won the following prize: each morning the bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account for your use. However, this prize has stipulations as follows. 1.) Everything you don’t spend that day would be taken from you. 2.) You may not transfer any monies into another account. 3.) You can only spend it. 4.) Each morning your account receives another deposit for $86,400 for that day. 5.) The bank can end the contest without warning; at any time close your account.  What would you do? How would you go about spending or utilizing $86,400 each day and on what?  Actually this game is real! Each of us have won such a prize, we can’t seem to see it.  The prize is time…1.Each morning you receive 86,400 seconds as a gift from God. 2.) And no remaining time is credited or accrued towards the next day. 3.) What is not used is gone forever. 4.) But, each morning God gives you another 86,400 seconds to use again. 5.) Your account can be dissolved and the game can end without warning. By God’s mercy we get to reinvest daily, He’s quickened us by way of His great love; invest in that which goes towards heavenly places, it will bring forth eternal in gains!

If your investments are in the world, you are the world’s worst investor.

And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church. Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.” Eph 1:22-23

As Christ is head of the church, we as Christians are to make the body, making each of us a vital part of the whole.  The human body has an estimated 32.7 trillion cells which break down to five primary types.  Question is do you function properly within the body of Christ as a Christian?
First type, Skin cells; they protect the inner workings of the body and while Christ does not need protection, do we allow the outside world interfere in our relationship, trust and faith in Christ or are we able to keep the temporal out of the eternal? Second type, Muscle cells; they power the body and strengthen it, do you depend on your own physical power to fight life or the power of the Holy Spirit? (bodily exercise profit little…1 Tim 4:8)  Third type, Nerve cells; the information highway which transmits and processes information vital for functioning properly, what fuels your mind, by what means do you transmit information (let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…Phl 2:5). Fourth type, Stem cells; provide the renewing of damage cells, fight off that which attacks.  Do you offer strength, encouragement, hope to those around you, showing the fruits of the Spirit in your life for others to draw from?  Fifth type, Gamete cells: brings forth life, reproduces.  Are you helping to bring forth new spiritual life through Christ, sharing the hope and promise of His salvation?

We're are all familiar with the FAT cell, just taking and absorbing all it can get to feed itself, eventually producing an ugly site, surely not us!

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Gal 6:7-8

Confusion, Delusion & Illusion...sharing truth today appears to be meaningless, as people don't want their self defined illusions destroyed.  A lack of discipline, accountability, inability to delay gratification, failure to acknowledge biblical truth, materialistic envy, absence of humility, and a delusional view of the importance of self over God and others has placed the majority in a state of spiritual brokenness and confusion.  Living in the moment and fulfilling your immediate desires may feel good today, but it leaves you susceptible to disaster tomorrow.  We have falling into accepting a reassuring lie, as opposed to an inconvenient truth.  We've become entrapped in a state of normalcy bias, content with the delusions of thought we've created for our own comforts.  Once we become a people who are only good because we fear getting caught or for a reward, we've become delusional.  Harriet Tubman stated: "I freed a thousand slaves.  I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves."  Sad, but such is the case when we fail to acknowledge truth, it's so delicate that a step away from it leads to delusion and destruction.

The God of the bible/truth is the only god who exists for those who are not yet His children.

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”  Psa 37:4

Problem a lot of people face is waiting all week for Friday, all year for summer and all life for happiness. The problem with that is not the problem; the problem is their attitude towards their problem. Often one never finds their happiness in the Lord because they are unwilling to let go of the life they have planned, so as to have the life He has waiting for them. Stop worrying about what might be lost and start looking at what is to be gained. If life has you focused on when your next escape from life will occur, maybe you need to set up a life in Christ that you don’t need an escape from?

Create a life of happiness with He who is on the inside, not with that which is on the outside.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.”  Rom 1:28

You cannot think your way into a new way of living; you have to live life in a new way of thinking.  This requires you to live life with your eyes on God and not the world. This was and is man’s downfall, when God becomes irrelevant; man then makes himself relevant. And thus forgoes the knowledge of God and instead turns to those things of inconvenience and destruction.  Anywhere man refrains from the wisdom of God, the relevance of God becomes void and knowledge gives way to degenerate thought.  The relevance of God is often overlooked for the flavor of the moment which constantly changes showing its true relevance.

That which is temporal cannot have relevance over that which is eternal.

What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.” Psa 25:12

Two things often define a person, their patience when they have nothing and their attitude when they have everything.  And one’s decision either way is an act of worship, thus what defines you is not your circumstances, but your decisions. Be cautious in making emotional decisions related to temporal dilemma’s, instead of concentrating on how you feel, focus on what you know to be true from the word of God.  The definition of a good decision is not determined by worldly standards, but eternal truths and while they may not bring you comfort they will bring you God’s favor.

Everyone will make life decisions, let the moment be defined by God and not the world.

“Who is as the wise man? And who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine and the boldness of his face shall be changed.”  Ecc 8:1

Wisdom is the ability to see life from God's perspective; seeking God to change the situation is not as valuable as God changing your heart towards it. God’s love for you is greater than your situation; nothing changes that, but it changes you. Changing your heart towards God’s view of your situation is not the result of you “trying harder”…but simply of surrendering more.

Change comes forth by making God decisions, not good decisions.

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of man, but in the power of God.” 1 Cor 2:5

Impoverished Faith…Man is quick to acknowledge acts of courage or stories of overcoming life obstacles as means of defining faithfulness and spiritual character.  Biblical stories such as David/Goliath, Daniel/Lions, Gideon/Jericho; and you have testimonies that fill multi-media sources today of individuals that triumph over life, drawing the applause and inspiration of others.  But what about faith that appears impoverished, offering no worldly rewards or even the acknowledgment of man?  Often such faith provides the opposite in ways of ridicule and abandonment.  Think of Mary, the mother of Jesus; though chosen by God to deliver the Saviour of man by way of the virgin birth, and yet lived her life in ridicule and attacks of man; seen as unclean and labeled as a whore, and yet her faith was monumental, but without merit to man. Faith without worldly reward is so often seen as futile by man. But, faith’s value lies not in the acknowledgment of man, but rather hangs on the power of the One who defines it. Faith starts with a backwards look at the cross, but lives looking forward to the promises that lie ahead.

Faith is not about everything turning out ok; Faith is about everything being ok no matter how it turns out.

ARISE, SHINE; for thy light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.” Isa 60:1-2

If “the reflective” is to be seen as a source of hope, it is one in which the viewer becomes the author, because without a viewer acknowledging it’s source it’s impossible to discern that something, or even the nothing, that is there.  What do you reflect for others to see? What source radiates from your being that others are able to acknowledge?  Just as the “Sun (Christ) of righteousness” (Mal 4:2) puts forth it’s light, man who offers no light, like the moon, has nothing to offer but a reflection of the “SUN” that shines on it. So, what type of reflection is seen in you, a full moon or is there just a sliver of light in your life reflecting Christ?  Just as a full moon draws your attention, and offers light in darkness; so does the fullness of Christ in your life offer hope and light in another’s dark life. The reflection seen in one’s life is not always resourceful.

Consuming God’s word without reflecting it is like eating without digesting it!

For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world…” 1 Tim 4:10

Is it not strange that in a single moment we can lose sight of Heaven and its exceeding glory; to only grovel in the dust and pebbles of life’s pleasures to throw them away afterwards?  If one uses carnal means in seeking happiness in life, they are going to have to continue utilizing greater carnal means to sustain it.  Desire itself gets no pleasure out of obtaining something; it only fuels itself in trying to acquire more than it already has. C.S. Lewis states:  If we find ourselves with desires this world cannot satisfy, the most probable explanation is that our sustaining desire is from another world.  The happy one is he who realizes that giving up that which you cannot keep, in order to gain that which you cannot lose is what sustains him.

That which you are chasing after will change you, what are you chasing?

But ye have an unction from the Holy One…” 1 Jn 2:20

The word “unction” (χρίσμα) means, “something rubbed in or anointed; the allusion is to the anointing of kings and priests, or their inauguration or coronation, (1Sa10:1; 1Sa 16:13; Exo 28:41; Exo 40:15). Christians, in the N.T. are described as “kings and priests,” (Rev 1:6; Rev 5:10), and as a “royal priesthood” (1Pe 2:5, 1Pe 2:9); and hence they are represented as “anointed,” in the Holy Spirit. Thus who God has “anointed” He will deliver byway of His covenant, The Father states “Touch not mine anointed…” (Psa 105:15).  The Holy Spirit influences are imparted to the children of God, to enlighten, to sanctify, and to comfort them in their trials…(Psa 23:5) tells us, God has prepared a table for you in the presence of your enemies, you’re anointed, and your cup runneth over.  The anointing of God precedes you, protects you and prepares you. David stated in (1 Sam 26:9), concerning Saul, “…who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?” (Psa 23:5).  God’s anointing assures you of His great love for you, and while you may not be perfect, Jesus thinks you’re to die for!

Someone will pay the price for your sins; will it be you or Jesus?

Behold I am pressed under you…” Amos 2:13

We often need to be reminded of the mercies we receive by the hand of God.  The Lord complains of sins from His profession children, as a burden unto Him.  Through God’s long-suffering may appear to be tried, His power will not.  When man rejects God’s word, and adds apathy to his sin as a general character, he will be given up to misery. Spiritual apathy is the doorway in which evil enters into the heart of man; it’s the last virtue of a dying society. Apathy towards God cheapens His grace in the minds of man, and allows them to become tolerant towards self will and desires. Opposition is not the greatest threat to man’s faith and obedience in God; it’s his apathetic approach that destroys him, and burden’s God. May we then humble ourselves before the Lord, for all our ingratitude and unfaithfulness towards Him!

Apathy is all that is need for things to continue as they are! (How’s that working out for us?)

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us.” Eph 2:4

The love of God towards you is perfect, because it’s based on Him not you; thus when you fail He still loves.  He demonstrated such great love for you in that: “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom 5:8)  Though we are incomplete, God loves completely. Though we are imperfect, He loves us perfectly. Though we may feel lost and without compass, His love encompasses us completely. His love is limitless; like the ocean we can see where it starts but not its end.  Remember, His love is based on Him, not you! True love is not an action after the fact; it is the characteristic of God that endures each moment.

I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?” Job 9:2

The question here asked is, in itself, the most important ever pondered by man - “How shall sinful man be regarded and treated as righteous by his maker?”;  knowing man’s sin is terminal to death (Rom 6:23a).  Yet his eternal happiness, his peace and all his hope, depend on his being treated as if he were righteous, or regarded as just before God. This inquiry has led to all forms of religion; to all the penances and sacrifices of different systems; to all the efforts which have been made to devise some system that shall make it proper for God to treat people as righteous.  This question can only be answered through Christ; the infinite merits of the Redeemer, in that Christ “may be just, and yet the justifier of him that believeth.”  The question asked by Job implies that such is the evidence and the extent of human guilt, that man can never justify himself.  “The greatest enemy to the soul is man’s self-righteous spirit that tries to justify their salvation.” Don’t live your life in trying to write a resume of acceptance for God, instead work it out daily through Christ Jesus; the author and finisher of your faith (Heb 12:2).

God wants a fruitful spirit, not a religious nut.

If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift my head. I am full of confusion; and again thou shewest thyself marvelous upon me.” Job 10:15 & 16b

We know God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor 14:33); Job’s confusion is the work of satan.  In either state, wicked (woe unto me) or righteous (I will not lift my head), Job knew the place of humility before God. Our Creator will not allow the works from the hands of the humble to be destroyed, but will renew them in holiness (Jas 4:10; 1 Pt 5:6). It can be strange how in a moment we can lose sight of Heaven, and suddenly find ourselves groveling in confusion at life, and yet come to realize God shows Himself wonderful still. Confusion is only a doorway in which wisdom travels through; but, until God shows you the door, praise Him in the hallway!

Those who leave everything is God’s hand, will see God’s hand in everything!

Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for.” Job 6:8

In Job, Ch. 6 & 7, we see his response to Eliphaz, his friend, as well as to God justifying his restless countenance and even his willingness to die in it.  Claiming man has no means to question his integrity or to deal deceitfully with him or for God not to forgive his sins and set a mark against him for his transgression. Man often becomes despondent in his confusion; unable to find answers he’s prone to find fault in that around him.  One must remember God is not the author of confusion, but of peace (1 Cor 14:23).  God will not allow pain without allowing something new to born of it (Isa 66:9).  Often we have to forget what we want in order to understand what we need. Even in confusion, it’s one’s hope in God that allows them even in pain to smile; in confusion, to understand; in betrayal, to trust; and in fear, to continue to fight.

Never confuse the will for your desire with the will of God.

Yet man is born unto trouble; and into God would I commit my cause; which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number. Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.”  Job 5:7-9; 27

Trouble comes to one and all without respect or thought, thus don’t hesitate to bring it before God; make known your cause before Him, tell him the whole of it, pour out your soul and then leave it with Him and not wrangle, quarrel or contend with Him, but say, here I am, and let Him do was seemeth good to Him. The works of God are manifold, innumerable and unable to be counted; like the stars of heaven, He is the God of the cattle on a thousand hills (Psa 50:10). Like the grains of sand on the beach, the various things done in providence, blessings of goodness are more than can be reckoned or numbered. Our times are in God’s hands, and it is well to be so. This assurance has been accounted for truth, just as the land was promised to their father’s before Israel possessed it, so were God’s promises established before your needs. Thus take it for yourself to be abundant for your case and make good use of it for your testimony to God’s goodness.

Just count the letters and see, God made your BLESSINGS bigger than your TROUBLES.

Behold thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it touched thee, and thou art troubled. Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?” Job 4:3-6

Does thy fear, thy confidence, come to nothing? Does it come only to this, that thou faintest?  Eliphaz – the mildest of Job’s three accusers; by way of Job’s complaints against God led the three to doubt Job’s integrity.  But (Lk 13:2-3) shows that, though there is retribution even in this life for our actions, we cannot judge by a single occurrence or appearance. “All things come alike to all; there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked.” (Ecc 9:2); but yet we must take it on faith, that God deals righteously even now (Psa 67:4); judge not by a part, but by the whole of a godly man’s life. “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy.” (Jms 5:11).  God brought about trials in Job’s case, so plainly to prove that He is pitiful and of tender mercy.  This did not appear during his troubles, but was seen in the event.  Let us serve God, and bear our trials as those who believe and know that the end offers a crown of life (Jms 1:12) for those who endure.  Our eternal happiness is safe if we trust to Him; all else is vanity.

That which is called to give off light, must endure burning!
