“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Pro 27:6

Man has become so thirsty for applause and “likes” he would be willing to accept them from an enemy; esteeming the approval of man over the Master. Beware of kisses of approval; it was Judas who kissed Jesus (Mk 14:44). What seems encouraging to the flesh is not always beneficial to the spirit. Be less concerned with the kisses you receive and more so whom you’re kissing… Psa 2:12 “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry… Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”  The rebuke of a friend is always more valuable than the reward of man (Ecc 7:5)!

Man tends to hear what he wants to hear, even if an enemy is the only one willing to say it… HSAY

“Beware lest any man spoil you through vain philosophy and vain deceit after the tradition of man, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Col 2:8

By definition the word “spoil” that is used here in the Greek is not in reference to being over indulged in your desires, but instead means to be robed, plundered or lead away, seduced from your faith and hope by man’s/worldly philosophy.  The Grecian philosophy prevailed strongly in Colossae causing them to rely rather on the deductive reasoning of man rather than the truth of God’s word. In its vain deceit, it was mere fallacy and its doctrines were established on plausible, not factual arguments. In addition to the Grecian thoughts, Colossae was exposed to Jewish opinion and its religious tradition that corrupted the gospel of Christ.  There are two ways for one to be deceived. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to accept what is true. Proverbs 15:4 says a tongue that brings healing is a tree/source of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. Don’t let man spoil/rob you of the life Christ has for you by his vain thoughts or traditional efforts. Deception may give you what you want for a season, but will always take away in the end. Let the world be vocal, just labor in the Lord silently, and let the fruit thereof make its own noise.

Don’t be deceived by the appearance of things, show is not substance.

“The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.” Psa 36:1

David speaks from a point of observation from within his heart, how the wicked act without observance of God. The eye may not lie, but don’t think it can’t be lied too.  It’s said: beware of half truths, you may have gotten hold of the wrong half.  Never underestimate the influence of people you allow in your lives, and the truths they live by (1 Cor 15:33). Deception will seldom reveal itself in falsehood, but rather cloth itself in a way that is appealing and desirable to the eye. Working to give you what you want for the present, but will demand so much more in return. Refuse to entertain yourself with things, and as well such people who chose to participate in what God went to the cross for. Instead search the truth in the scriptures for the heart of God, you’ll begin to see more clearly what is real and start understanding his will.

Real eyes realize real lies.
