“Fret not thyself because of evildoers,
neither be thou envious against the workers of iniguity.” Psa 37:1
Two
things David warns us about while encouraging us to “Fret not” meaning to burn,
be kindled or angry. He points out evilness and enviousness as emotional issues
to refrain from. Don’t think evil gets by or greed equals gain. The feeling
David illustrates is that which springs up in the mind when you see persons of
corrupt or wicked character prospered, while you, endeavoring to do right, are
left to poverty, to disappointment, and to tears. David foretells of their demise, saying they
will be cut down like the grass and whither as the herb (vs 2). So, David
directs us to a greater purpose instead… Trust, Delight, Commit
and Rest in the Lord (vss 3-7). What your mind dwells upon is what your
mind feeds upon. David warns against evilness and envy, and directs our minds
to confidence and complacency in God. That which consumes you, does just that! To
possess His will, He must possess your thoughts. Don’t allow yourself to be blinded
by him that is around from He which is within you! You must choose to either
focus on the many problems or the One solution.
