2 Sam 12:9 “Wherefore
hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast
killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife…”
It’s one thing to do wrong and completely different to stay
wrong! David had sinned grievously but had not confessed his sin to God. That
is until Nathan the prophet called King David to account. Ultimately, David
received Nathan’s rebuke and confessed his sin. The question is, would we? Often,
we weigh our sins against what we justify as the more serious sins, and in
doing so don’t take to heart the serious of sin itself in comparison to God’s
word. Sin isn’t judged on a weighted scale, but simply God’s word; sin is sin
(Rev 21:8). If, (or when) God sends
someone in your life, and/or circumstances, our first response should not be
resistance or take prideful offense to it. Rather, take it to heart in comparison
to God’s word, and weight it with a response, “what have I missed Lord, or what
are you showing me?” Point being, our
humility should immediately draw our attention to God’s word and our works. Keep
in mind that Nathan did not get involved until David no longer allowed God to
be involved. If David would’ve weighed his decision against God’s word, Nathan
would not have been needed!
